Drink some gin and do some good!

Earlier this year we relaunched our popular Manchester Tart flavour. With our previous limited-edition launch selling out in just 7 days, we knew we had to bring it back in an even bigger way. Not only have we given Manchester Tart a new, refreshed look but this time round we’ve partnered with EMERGE 3Rs (registered charity number 1132944) to fight food waste and poverty in Greater Manchester.

EMERGE 3Rs’ core mission is to reduce waste and carbon emissions and work for social good. Over the course of the COVID-19 pandemic they’ve proved their commitment to this by dedicating time to helping feed school children who have been out of school. This is something we really wanted to get behind, so we’ve pledged to donate £5 for every bottle of Manchester Tart Didsbury Gin sold.

They’ve worked closely with FareShare (registered charity number 1100051) to stop overstocked food from shops and supermarkets being sent to landfill sites. Not only would this food go to waste, but it contributes massively to the planet’s carbon emissions. Instead of allowing this surplus food to be disposed of, they work to donate the fresh, in-date goods to front line charities, community centres, schools and humanitarian initiatives across the city region.

With each £5 providing up to 20 meals to charities supporting those most in need in Greater Manchester, it’s easy to see why this is a cause we wanted to get behind.

Liam, our co-founder, said, “Bringing back Manchester Tart was a no brainer. It was such a popular flavour when we originally released it back in 2019. To return it with a purpose, especially that which links to the heritage of the brand, is even more special”.

He continued, “Hearing the news that an estimated two in five children living below the poverty line are not entitled to free school meals[1] made us sit up and listen. We have always been very passionate about charity work, especially that which focuses on the Greater Manchester area.”

Especially this past year, we’ve done everything we can to support our local community through the fallout of the COVID-19 pandemic. During the first lockdown in 2020, we sprang into action by producing over 2 million bottles of hand sanitiser in just seven days for the NHS, police and care homes. We also donated 35,000 items of PPE to Manchester Social Care.

“Marcus Rashford’s campaign has inspired us all and combining two of the UK’s favourite things – gin and food – to help provide a solution just makes good sense.” said Liam.

“We are really proud to be working with EMERGE 3Rs to help feed children…Together we believe we can make a real difference in the community”

Inspired by the classic dessert, Manchester Tart is a nostalgic blend of bold flavours of raspberry jam, vanilla and subtle hints of coconut. As with all of our products, we’ve taken traditional artisan methods and given them a modern spin with our blend of botanicals including fresh citrus, British roots and hand cracked juniper berries.

We’re all immensely proud to have gotten behind such a good cause in the best way we know how: through celebrating Manchester and good gin.
